From a small town in the Eastern Cape called Mdantsane, born and raised musician with a strong inspiration of music and entertainment, Luyolo Lenga visited our studios today and performed a deep rooted song for us that is infused and influenced by African cultures this evening, he mostly uses instruments that are handcrafted and are called Uhadi’bo, Umrhubhe’bo, Umqangi’bo and Umakhweyane.
The Bowls instrument was inspired by the then weaponry called Bo & Arrow where the weapon was mostly used to fight in different wars by different African tribes, the weapon was made specifically to fight your opponents at a distance and shooting arrows at them. Lenga later turned the weapon into an amazing musical instrument that can only be found in Southern Africa that brings nothing but lovely melodies,
The Xhosa musician has recently released an Album titled “Isiphiwo sam” which 80% of its instruments are hand crafted by him. This wonderful music is called “Umculo buciko” meaning commentary music and generally known as a “World Music genre”.
They are here in Cape Town for only two months, If you would like to know where their next show is please follow them on facebook and search for Luyolo Lenga.
