Calls to avail sites for affordable housing in the Cape

The activists groups Ndifuna Ukwazi, the Legal Resources Centre and the Development Action Group are among 31 organisations who wants the three Cape Town military bases to be used for low-income housing.They claim that Ysterplaat, Wingfield and Youngsfield can help in the crisis for affordable housing in Cape town and they have submitted a proposal to president Cyril Ramaphosa, the National COVID-19 Command Council and various ministers. According to the activist group Ndifuna Ukwazi, the illegal land invasions that has been taking place in Cape town during the Covid-19 lockdown, shows the dire need for housing and by making use of these sites, the national government could accommodate up to 67,000 low-income households.
