There has been a 42% weekly increase in new Covid-19 infections in the Western Cape over a period of 2 weeks since November till yesterday the second of December. The Western Cape Health Department confirmed today that there are now more than 10,000 active cases in the province. According to Western cape head of health Dr Keith Cloete, the Cape metro and the Garden Route remain hotspots in the province since infections continue to rise. A week ago the positivity rate was at 16% - it's now sitting at over 20%.There has also been a rapid increase in hospitalisations in the public and private sector.
