Identikidz programme starts in 16 City Beaches

The 9 year old girl, who almost drowned at Strand beach yesterday, was treated at Busamed and transferred to Tygerberg ICU. Doctors have indicated that she will make a satisfactory recovery due to a good result and hard work with the CPR. She and a 16 year old girl got caught in a rub-current while swimming outside of a marked area at the beach. A 18 year old boy went in to help them but got pulled in by strong waves and is still missing at sea The search team is using high-resolution cameras to search the shoreline for the missing person. In the meantime, The City of Cape Town's Identikidz programme, which registers and issues kids at the beach with an identification armband, will once again ensure the safety of children who get lost at beaches over the festive season. Last year more than 100 000 children were tagged and 535 were reunited with their families. The programme will once again be rolled out to 16 beaches on priority days during December and January.
