The City's Ghost squad

The City of Cape Town’s Ghost Squad, which is a specialised unit within the Traffic Service, reported an increase in the issuing of fines and successful arrests as roads get busier. The number of arrests for driving while under the influence of alcohol continues to climb with 52 motorists arrested last month. The Ghost Squad was launched in July 2009 and has  proved to be effective from the start. With 12 officers using unmarked vehicles, they recorded an average of more than 2 000 offences for the first few months. Today the unit has 25 high performance vehicles, patrolling the City’s streets and highways. These vehicles include motorcycles and cars.
